Lead Engineer
To install and maintain electrical systems for smoke control systems in various buildings, ensuring that they meet industry standards and regulations. Responsible for the electrical installation of new systems, upgrades to existing systems, together with the commissioning of completed installations. Service and maintenance visits will also be offered to non NSP systems to ensure the safety, functionality, and compliance of smoke ventilation and control systems. The Lead Engineer will line manage one team member (Engineer or Apprentice) and must be within commutable distance from our HQ in Kidderminster.
The role involves:
- Installation
- Plan and install electrical systems for smoke control systems, including wiring, power distribution and integration with BMS/fire alarm systems
- Ensure proper selection of electrical components such as fans, dampers, actuators, control panels, and emergency power supplies
- Develop and review detailed electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and consultants to ensure smoke control systems are integrated with the overall building infrastructure and define project requirements
- Manage project timelines and provide a high-quality installation in a cost-efficient manner
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure smoke control systems comply with local, national, and international fire safety regulations
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure all designs meet fire safety and building code requirements
- Test and commission smoke control systems to ensure correct functionality in emergency situations
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Provide maintenance and troubleshooting support for existing smoke control systems
- Diagnose and rectify electrical faults in smoke ventilation systems
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and documentation of system performance
- Provide technical support during the construction phase and address any issues related to the electrical aspects of smoke control systems
- Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed documentation, including service, progress and commissioning reports
- Maintain accurate records of system installations, modifications and test airflow results
- Leadership & Management
- Supervise, train, and mentor Apprentice as and when required, leading by example
- Plan, prioritise, and delegate work tasks
- Provide feedback to Engineering Management
Key experience / Qualifications:
- SSSTS
- ECS Gold Card Holder
- BS7671 18th Edition
- C&G 2391 Test and Inspection or Equivalent
- Full UK Driving License
- PASMA
- IPAF
Qualities required:
- Strong leadership qualities and ability to train and mentor apprentices
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read drawings and plan approach to project to completion
- Ability to work to deadlines
- Must be within commuting distance from the NSP HQ in Kidderminster
